Cet Enfant/THIS CHILD
(Cet Enfant/Dieses Kind)
Directed by: Joël Pommerat
Ensemble Compagnie Louis Brouillard
Country France (Paris)
German first night performance
Joël Pommerat investigates the structures of the economic and political power and the force which exudes from them. He questions the persons affected, writes cynical farces of his enquiry material and rehearses them with his actors for months. They do not act out at his plays, but they appear as casual. Dubious worlds full of puzzles and shades lie in wait there: Existential threats in which words are the only protection and weapon at the same time. They arise all these secrets, the precipices of the soul and weird worlds of experience. Cinematic stylistic devices support this wonderful picture theatre of light and music. The cunning aesthetics seduce and shock. “Cet enfant” diversifies a spectrum of inner family injuries;it got the critics’ prize in 2006. With his company founded 18 years ago, Pommerat is one of the most sought-after directors of France. They are “artists in residence” with Peter Brook at the Parisian “Bouffes du Nord” at the moment.
