The thirteenth edition of our festival Theater der Welt will take place in early summer 2014 in Mannheim. This date coincides with the 175th anniversary of the Nationaltheater Mannheim, which was one of the first theatres in the world to be founded as a ‘Kommunaltheater’ (municipal theatre).

Theater der Welt runs every three years. Previous editions were hosted by the cities of Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr (2010), Halle an der Saale (2008) and Stuttgart (2005).

Matthias Lilienthal was assigned Programme Director of Theater der Welt 2014 and will organize the festival together with Burkhard C. Kosminski, Artistic Director of the Nationaltheater Mannheim.
