Andares

A young boy is unable to speak to his grandmother because he has never learned her language. Another feels attracted to his male friends and eventually comes out as »muxe« or third sex. A third is ashamed that he cannot kill a deer as his ancestors traditionally did.

Andares (pathways) presents the extraordinary stories of three actors from Mexico with Mayan, Zapotec, and Wixarika roots. Woven together from personal anecdotes, ancestral myths, and an outcry for justice, this exceptionally touching narrative reveals the joy, anger, and sorrow currently unfolding in their home- lands. Andares is a moving, fierce denunciation of a present that seems intent on destroying what was once held sacred.
