Penda Diouf

Burkina Faso, France
Actor and playwright Penda Diouf travelled to Namibia in search of her own memories but stumbled across a forgotten genocide – the first of the 20th century – committed by the German colonial army against the Herero and Nama peoples in German South West Africa. Her play pays homage to the victims of this genocide and to its heroes. It also reveals the situation to subsequent generations who must come to terms with the fact that legality and justice cannot be restored. In a production by director Aristide Tarnagda from Burkina Faso the young Chadian actress Nanyadji Ka-gara performs this moving text for the first time in Germany for Theater der Welt 2021.
