Sisi Pelebe

Nigeria / Theatre
In Sisi Pelebe the Nigerian playwright and director Kelvinmary Ndukwe has written a fast-moving puzzle about traditional role models, the search for identity and all sorts of half-knowledge about gender roles and sexual orientation that will deliberately test its audience.

Based on the question »Who is Sisi Pelebe?« the play not only serves as a reflection of Nigerian society but also highlights the fundamental conflict that breaks out when traditional family stereotypes are challenged. Ndukwe guides his mercurial ensemble through a laugh out loud, high octane tour de force where every family cliché is brought to light in the course of one evening. Sisi Pelebe is a compelling and authentic narrative of the 21st century family in Nigeria – and all over the world.
